In Character Information

character name: Malik A-Sayf
Fandom: Assassin’s Creed
Timeline: In canon: Shortly after Altair’s second Jerusalem assassination of Majd Addin.
In CS: After his bonding with Isolde and apology with Altair.
character's age: 26

powers, skills, pets and equipment:

Skills:

In canon Malik was trained as an assassin and in that way he is an excellent fighter. The loss of his arm makes it harder for him and he isn't as skilled as he was in the past, but he is still formidable compared to those without such training. More so he's extremely perceptive, as he states, and is better at planning and exploiting. As a cover he works as a map maker and has skill in cartography.

Equipment:

- His clothes which are similar to the dai robes (The robes to the right,) only shorter and slightly different shades to reflect recreating them in CS.
- His datapad
- His vibroblade

Powers:

Canonly Malik is without any supernatural abilities. For Scorched I would like for him to have a psychic sort of tracking ability. He’d be able to track members of the Order and people he considers honorary members, as his job in canon is to take care of the active assassins.

To make sure this doesn’t tread on any toes he’d only be able to do it with people who want to be found and can be spotty at times, incase people would want to be found but the muns don’t want them to be.

canon history: His history is detailed here.

personality:

Malik is a strong, proud man from the start. He tends towards being rather ornery, even disagreeable when faced with those he does not care for. This is, in part, due to his 'no shit' attitude, as he isn't one to deal with foolishness or trickery. In this way he is a man not afraid to speak his mind, and not afraid to speak up against or stand up against those who he truly believes to be in the wrong. This makes him seem fairly cold to some, though he is fully capable of changing his opinion and, even if he can hold a grudge, he is also is able to let a grudge go.

Despite this strong will Malik adhere and perhaps even bows to the law of the assassin's Creed. He has a deep respect for it's tenets and follows them to the letter, shaping his life around their teachings. He is so invested in them that when Altair begins flagrantly disobeying their code he grows agitated and confrontational, even in the midst of a mission. Even though Altair was higher than him and more talented as an assassin his acts against the Creed Malik refuses to give him respect. While Malik's devotion to the Creed and their master, Al Mualim, is nearly blind he can be reasoned with and his mind can be changed. When Altair asks Malik to look further into the works of their master to find the truth Malik is hesitant but eventually does. When what he finds proves their master's betrayal Malik stands up with Altair against him, despite how 'heart breaking' the revelations are.

As he was raised by the Assassin's Malik is disciplined, his work ethic fairly strong. He tends to be protective of those he cares about, most notably his younger brother. Despite the fact they are both assassins Malik tries to keep Kadar, his brother, from too much dangerous involvement or work higher than his skills. While how much he cares isn't immediately apparent from his rather harsh demeanor it is obvious from this protective streak that he does. When he eventually grows warmer to Altair his disagreeable demeanor lessens considerably and he can be surprisingly supportive and empathetic, willing to talk about forgiveness and the losses he suffered at Solomon's Temple that he blamed Altair for.

For a good deal of the early game Malik is extremely bitter for these losses, the loss of his arm and of his brother, and attacks Altair harshly for them. On that day he lost his only family and his future as an active assassin, something he obviously laments. Before the loss of his arm he was one of the best of the assassins, in league with Altair though he was not at Altair's skill level. He admits to harboring a great deal of jealousy for Altair and his skills, a jealousy that helped blind him during the events of Solomon's temple and helped orchestrate the disaster. It can be assumed before the accident the two were quite competitive, considering their skills and being of the same age group. Being stuck in a Bureau and out of active duty was not an easy transition for Malik, and only compounded his bitterness.

Despite this Malik makes a capable dai, something of an advisor stationed in Jerusalem to aid the assassins on missions there. Even before his accident Malik is fairly wise, his acceptance of the Creed and the ways of the assassins giving him a sort of stability Altair is yet to find. As time progresses in the Bureau he strengthens these skills more, working as a map maker and amassing something of loyalty in some of the assassins, enough at least that they are willing to stand against Al Mualim and with him and Altair when they go to defeat their former master. This 'wisdom' stretches to his ability to eventually forgive Altair as well. Though it's a long, slow process he is willing to concede when Altair makes strides as a person, though grudgingly at first. By the end he can see his own role in the disaster and tells Altair he does not need to ask forgiveness as Altair is not the same man he was before.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

Malik’s used to strange things and random upheavals of his person thanks to his time in Counted Stars. Malik has gone through a great deal in canon and in Counted Stars, including losing his arm, his younger brother and several near death experiences, making him more than capable of handling any darker tones or topics that may come up in the game.

Previously Played Information

previous game: Counted_Stars
length of time there: eight months

important development and/or events in your previous game:

Malik starts off in CS confused then ultimately accepting the situation, meeting Ezio and deciding then to try and gain more intel on everything around him. Altair’s arrival shortly after throws him for more of a loop but is ultimately a blessing to have some piece of home with him. They eventually move to the same suite and Malik continues working to gather resources and information.

And then the space plague happens. A sickness spreads and no cure is immediately available, though the Sith offer a cure for those who join their ranks. Malik is close to death when Altair joins the Sith to get him the cure and save his life, something that Malik is not at all pleased about. Eventually Altair and another who joined for the cure and ultimately betrayed the Sith are captured and their torture is broadcasted. Malik learns of a group going to try and rescue them and insists on joining as well. It’s on the ride there that he meets Isolde.

Altair and Catty are rescued and brought back to Coruscant where Malik keeps an eye on Altair and meets Catty officially. There are some misadventures at a festival when Altair performs a leap of faith off the ferris wheel but other than that things go smoothly. Well, smoothly until Altair is affected by a force rip event and projects his thoughts. It’s then that he and Malik have a long discussion about why Altair gave himself to the Sith and the pair’s relationship improves somewhat, getting much closer to forgiveness on Malik’s part.

The last two big events that happen begin with Isolde accidentally force bonding with Malik when they go to train. This connection and influence is one of the final straws in Malik finally forgiving Altair, the second of the big events before he’d be taken to Scorched.
