[When the video turns on it's to a very displeased looking man, and apparently one who doesn't realize he just triggered the video function. He regardes the screen suspiciously for a few moments before huffing a sigh and just dropping his hand to his side. Everyone gets an exciting view of the dirt of field as he walks.]

This- this is too temperamental for Masyaf. If- [He freezes when something rustles. Oh look, a friendly scarecrow! Malik drops the dreamberry, making the view only of the scarecrow hobbling up. There's the ominous sound of a small blade being unsheathed.] What foul sorcery is this?

[Apparently the scarecrow has some fruit it wants to share, but by Malik's tone it doesn't sound like coming closer will be good for the scarecrow's health.]

[oh great, now voices were coming out of no where B( Malik looks around suspiciously again, though he's still trying to keep his eye on that scarecrow. When he finally notices the voice is coming from the dreamberry he is completely bamboozled.]

What- [He gives the scarecrow a warning look before kneeling slightly to get a better look at the dreamberry. No picking it up though, his one arm is keeping that blade up.] Who are you? Why does this... this thing speak?

My name is Hawke, serah, and this device through which I am speaking is known as a "Dreamberry". They are common here, and used for communication, mostly.

[Don't feel bad, he freaked the first time his spoke to him, too.]

It's a machine, of sorts, and has much information you will find useful while here.

A machine? [His Crusade Era mind is not happy, but as irate as he looks he seems to be listening.] I have seen strange artifacts, but none like this.

Hawke- I am Malik A-Sayf. Where am I? What- [The scarecrow bounces some more pretty carefree] ... what is this creature?

[An amiable nod.] Well met, Serah Malik. This is the world of Somarium, a dream realm, as I'm given to understand, a world from which there is little chance of waking. At least, not by our desire.

[Pause.]

The creature there is a scarecrow, a native of this place. This one, apparently, means you no harm as it hasn't outright attacked. Most likely, it wants to share its bounty with you. Stand down, and let it approach.

[Malik doesn't look like he particularly believes any of this but he does eventually put the blade away. Hey, if this weird thing was dangerous he could whip out some throwing knives fast enough, might as well see if this "Hawke" and this... thing were trustworthy.

He just eyes the scarecrow as it offers him an apple, which he stares at then carefully takes. Our friend the scarecrow hobbles off, leaving Malik looking a little confused and mostly disgruntled. He sighs and sits down next to the dreamberry.]

I had thought it a trick, but it seems you are true, Hawke. [For now at least B|a ] It will do me no favor to continue claiming all I see is impossible, as difficult as it is to keep those thoughts at bay. Why are we here? What purpose does such a vivid dream have?

[Hawke doesn't take offense; indeed, he merely shrugs slightly.]

I have little reason to be otherwise, serah. I too am a recent arrival here, brought from my own dear and familiar land. Nor am I the only one; there are many others here, all from different realms and lands.

As to the why, that I cannot answer. No one seems to possess this knowledge, though not from a lack of asking. There are those who have also been here years, and still do not have the answer.

[Malik sighs, turning the apple over.] Answers are so often in short supply it seems.

Thank you, Hawke, that... thing may have met a messy end otherwise. [He's just going to pocket the apple and stand, picking up the Dreamberry.] I am not sure where to go next.

Those are not your enemies. This place has beasts enough for such.

I would advise you to find shelter of a sort; the village is probably near and there are many cottages empty there. Find a suitable place and furnish it; it will be yours for as long as you remain.

I...hm. But then, you may happen across another familiar to you. Ofttimes is the case. Or so I'm told.

I see- so this place does wish us to remain here. Why else would it allow such a thing. [sigh.] I am not certain this is not the result of some madness entering my mind.
